To AI or not to AI - That is the Questions

I really want to get back to making more long form videos. But what videos do I want to make?

Just 12 months ago that would have been simple. I know what tech I want to learn, I know what tech I want to teach. I even have projects in my mind.

And then coding agents actually got good.

These days there are so many people making instruction and example videos using AI - and that's great. It's a skill that, even with the hideous price rises coming, is going to be useful.

But it's just not me. I can't enjoy spending time making a video of asking AI to do things. Hence my procrastination in getting back into making.

So instead I am going to use my experience building using those tools to focus on something that I think is missing from the space. The layer below the magic. This is missing so often, and that lack of knowledge and insight can be dangerous, as a report released last month shows.

ACM TechBrief: AI-Assisted Software Development, or Vibe Coding: Benefits and Risks of AI-Driven Software Development

Yes, AI coding can dramatically increase productivity. But it also dramatically increases risks. And if you do not read or understand the code being created, you could be in real trouble. Either from something that your AI agent is going to struggle to update, or something that you are going to need to completely redesign from the ground up.

So... I'm going to continue to focus on the actual code and technologies. It's where my passion lies, and there is still real value in making it.

So I have a few projects that I am going to be using for this:

  • Your Library: A personal, anti-social media, personal library. I have a large book collection and I need help remembering what I own, what I have lent to others, and what I borrowed from others!
  • The Swetugg website for the conference that I help organise in Stockholm. Design and interaction changes to make it even more useful for next year!

So come along and join me on StacyClouds YouTube!
